With Chef Trent - Founder

Trent Blodgett's journey started from battling chronic depression to finding solace and purpose in cooking. Trained to cook at an upscale Spanish restaurant in San Francisco led to a chef position running large events and pop up dinners throughout the Bay Area. Immersed in the captivating world of flavors and scents, Trent became fascinated by the history and cultural influences of cuisine.

Driven by his newfound passion, Trent embarked on extensive travels, collecting spices that reminded him of the diverse culinary experiences he encountered. Cooking became his medicine and meditation, transforming his outlook on life. This transformative journey led Trent to establish Spice Tribe, a platform to share his spice blends, stories, and the belief that a shift in cooking perspective can profoundly impact one's existence.

How spicy is Roco Hot Sauce?

Our hot sauce has a medium to high level of spiciness. It offers a kick of heat without overwhelming the palate. When you try it, expect a sweetness on the pallet in the beginning, then umami funkiness from the fermentation, then a little spice hitting at the end.

How is Roco Hot Sauce made?

Our Rocoto Hot Sauce is made with Aji Rocoto Chili Peppers grown in Ecuador -- we get them straight from the farm. The next ingredient, plantain vinegar, uses plantains also grown in Ecuador, which get super ripe and are then mixed with acetic acid: the mother to make vinegar. That acetic acid bacteria then breaks down the sugars in the plantain, producing vinegar. That is then mixed with fermented rocoto mash: fresh rocoto chilis, blended, mixed with Ecuadorian sea salt. There are no additives, no preservatives.

Is this hot sauce gluten-free and vegan?
