Tropical fruit, High Heat

Comapeño chiles are a rare wild chile originating in the mountains of Veracruz. Ours is organically grown, sun-ripened and hand harvested locally in Booneville, California. This vibrant orange chile powder packs a very spicy kick with an unforgettable tingle reminiscent of citrus zest and tropical fruit. Use it like you would use any hot chile powder or liven up your guacamole, fish tacos or favorite stews with this potent spice.

Level of Spiceyness: SHU=50,000-100,000 (twice the heat of Cayenne!)

Origin & Sourcing

Booneville, California

In the coastal California county of Mendocino, 100 miles north of San Francisco, the hills are twined with grapevines that produce a perfect Pinot Noir. Here, in the sunny Anderson Valley where the climate is tempered by cool marine air, you’ll find Boonville Barn Collective. This woman-owned farm has been producing unique chile powders for more than a decade. The collective grows, hand-picks, dries, and grinds chile peppers into spices using sustainable agricultural techniques. Their goal is to produce healthy food without compromising future generations' ability to do the same. The farm is Renegade certified, and they grow crops with organic growing practices.

Reviews

Frequently Asked Questions

How spicy is this chile?

This chile is very spicy and about twice as hot as cayenne pepper.

Why are the jars smaller?

This is one of our most expensive spices and we decided to use a smaller jar than fill our regular jars halfway.

Are these chiles organic?

Yes everything grown at Booneville Barn Collective is organic.

Do spices lose their flavor after the "Best by" date?

Don’t worry if your spices are past their best-by date. When sealed, our spices maintain their quality for about 3 years. After opening, they remain flavorful for an additional 2-3 years if stored properly. While the best-by date indicates peak freshness, our spices still deliver great flavor and are safe to use well beyond that date.
