Origin & Sourcing

Extremadura, Spain

For over a century our partner farm has been cultivating ñora peppers for pimentón in Extremadura, Spain, a storied region dubbed the “Spanish Wild West” for its high concentration of Old World conquistadors. Picked at peak autumnal ripeness, the peppers are smoked over oak wood for two weeks, during which the farmer turns over the fruit by hand once daily. Milling is equally unhurried—the smoked peppers are slowly stone-ground to maintain sweetness (metal grinders can burn and bitter). Our pimentón has the Denominacion de Origen, a prestigious distinction for Spain’s finest agricultural provisions.

Trent Blodgett's journey started from battling chronic depression to finding solace and purpose in cooking. Trained to cook at an upscale Spanish restaurant in San Francisco led to a chef position running large events and pop up dinners throughout the Bay Area. Immersed in the captivating world of flavors and scents, Trent became fascinated by the history and cultural influences of cuisine.

Driven by his newfound passion, Trent embarked on extensive travels, collecting spices that reminded him of the diverse culinary experiences he encountered. Cooking became his medicine and meditation, transforming his outlook on life. This transformative journey led Trent to establish Spice Tribe, a platform to share his spice blends, stories, and the belief that a shift in cooking perspective can profoundly impact one's existence.

Tips for Success

Cooking tips from our chefs

The compounds in paprika disperse flavor and color well in oil. Smoked paprika is ground fine which is susceptible to burn easier than coarse ground spices. If this spice is burnt the bitter flavors will increase because it already has a Smokey aroma.
